For my piece Collide, I wanted the main subject that would represent the overarching theme to be a moth. For the contest, I researched symbolism and organisms, and I felt that a moth would be the best suited to help bring the theme's message across. My research on moths suggested that moths are symbolic of disguises and are a reminder to be aware of what you could be hiding from yourself. What I read also suggest this: ''The energy of the moon affects people in differing ways. If you constantly find yourself having changes in mood that happen almost sporadically...'' I saw the movie, and I felt that it would be interesting if I chose a personality and created a piece of artwork that personality would create; so I chose Dennis. I believe that if Dennis were to create a piece of artwork, it would be symmetrical and detailed and that every detail would be in its place and orderly. My art style is sort of like that, so I played with my strengths. Regarding the title of the piece Collide, throughout the movie, one of the main characters were at times having inner battles mentally, and that inner conflict helped with the naming of the piece.
