My gift is a story, a story to girl who's a cutter. I rarely see this person, but the times that I do, she exchanges stories about her scars, scars that were self-inflicted. Learning about the backstory and the individuality of each scar is a treasure on its own. However, the conversation always goes one way, yes I'm enjoying what she's saying, but I never know how to reply; to add to the conversation. Until now. This piece was a response to my research in understanding people with self-inflicted injuries. The next time I see her, the conversation will be different.
