Watermelon... why watermelon?
And that's speaking from someone who actually likes watermelons...
But coming back to the piece itself... Once again, I am faced with an example of vibrant explosion of decorative motifs spreading from all directions. The technique involved in the creation of this piece - comparable to your other pieces, to be sure - is one that speaks to your skill with a blade, once again. It's definitely one way to make the car look exciting. And for accomplishing that task, bravo.
The problem with this piece is that it's more of an expression than one with a purpose - and the purpose for this decidedly commercial contest is, indeed, to advertise a make of car called the "Dart" by Dodge. As much as the excitement erupted around the car, the silhouette in the middle remains, unfortunately, quiet and underwhelmed as compared to all the sound and fury around it. If the car remains a mysterious prototype, this piece would have been a great way to announce its entrance into the world. However, the car in question has already been created and now wants artists to pay homage to it.
It's really quite unfortunate, I think. Without the relation to the contest I would say this piece stands wonderfully on its own and contains a muted brilliance all to itself. But as a contest piece with a distinct goal in mind, this piece does not quite meet that goal. Commercialism aside, this is a real shame.
